Studio of Preservation

The Preservation Studio is part of the B.A. Program in Architecture at the David Azrieli School of Architecture in the Yolanda and David Katz Faculty of Arts at Tel-Aviv University. The studio constitutes a broad introduction to the field of architectural planning in an existing and vulnerable historic environment and deals with the study of historic areas, whose restoration may serve as leverage for urban renewal.

The curriculum includes: historic identities and cultural heritage; architectural legacy, old traditions for future benefit; research on the built historic environment; the documentation and study of buildings and their cultural significance; new construction in historic context and structural additions; planning, preservation and the conversion of buildings for various uses, as well as public spatial planning through a process of “integrated and supplementary preservation” to meet urban planning demands.
